General Info
This weapon was useful and harmful for many things in World War I. Tanks were used to overcome the stalemates that most trench wars caused. They were used to get to the enemies trench across "No Mans Land". The first tank was used at an unknown to most battle called Battle of Flers.
Tanks were used to get past certain difficult obstacles such as barbed wire. The tank could knock the barbed wire over with no problem whereas any lucky man that survived No Mans Land would have a hard if not impossible time getting over the barbed wire.
The tank was in one of its earliest stages in 1770 and was being tinkered with by Richard Edgeworth. Some of the improvements include: an engine better fit for tanks installed, the driving was put under the control of one man, 360 degree vision was created and there was a rear firing machine gun.

Impacts and Consequences
Although the tank brought a lot to the war, it also had some negative effects. One of the first tanks introduced to World War I could not cross trenches and had a maximum speed of 3 mph. After many improvements a new tank came that could cross over trenches, could carry ten men, had a rotating gun, and could now reach 4 mph. Because some of the tanks couldn't cross over trenches, it was an era of trial and error. They lost many men and a lot of time. They finally made a tank qualified enough to be used in the war. `
This weapon was a major influence on the war. Many countries would have lost a lot more men if it hadn't been for the tanks. The wars would have lasted a lot longer than they did because trench warfare caused stalemates. The tanks resolved said stalemates.
The soldiers were effected the most because of this weapon. Many soldiers were saved because of the tank but many were also lost. Many Generals had to decide between all of the men who was the most qualified to work such difficult machinery. They saved many of their men and got to use many more for front line instead of sending men to their death across No Mans Land. Not very many civilians were effected by this at all because tanks were and are mostly used for war. Unless you were on the battlefield the use of tanks didn't effect you in any way.
Pros:
Cross over barriers easily
Could carry 10 men at a time
Saved many soldiers from going into No Mans Land unprotected
Ability to turn sharply at maximum speed
Ability to cross an eight foot gap
Cons:
Didn't move very fast
Early additions didn't have a rear machine gun
Had multiple drivers until improved

Connections to Today
Tanks are still used to fight. Tanks have continued and are still continuing to be improved. Every country, if not almost every country has picked up the use of the tank. It has spread all over the world and have become more advanced as it goes. Countries use it for both defense and attacking.
The use of tanks has been traced back the eighteenth century. It took a long time to stop blueprinting and start producing, but many wars have been solved because of these machines.
Tanks are not the only way to wage war nowadays, but they are still very useful. They come in just as handy as they used to which has made war easy, effective, and all the more deadly.
